About SparkUp VPN
A connection-sharing network built so the person sharing keeps the controls.
SparkUp is an app in which every device can both use a connection and contribute one. A private SparkUp Circle lets a family share the connection at home; SparkUp Public lets that same device serve the wider community within limits its owner sets.
How the connection reaches your apps depends on the device. On Android it runs as a device-wide VPN. On Linux it also opens a local SOCKS5 proxy — port 1080 by default — so a single browser or tool can go through it instead of the whole machine, and other devices on your network can use that proxy too.
Why we built it this way
Apps that ask people to share their internet usually offer one switch and no visibility: you never learn who used your connection or what for, and the traffic is sold to business customers. Networks that do give you control — private mesh VPNs — only connect your own devices, so there is nothing to contribute to and nothing to gain from other people.
SparkUp tries to keep both halves. Sharing comes in rungs, from your own devices up to an open exit, and each rung states who can connect, where their traffic may go and what it costs your device. Traffic runs device to device over WireGuard; the coordinator that introduces two devices never carries the traffic itself.
Where the project is today
SparkUp is in early access on Android and Linux. Windows and macOS are in development; there is no iOS app. Feature labels on this site — Available, In development, Planned — are checked against what the app actually ships, and the home page carries the date they were last checked.
How it is paid for
- There are no ads on this site and no tracking of visitors.
- Credit inside the network is a usage allowance, not money: it cannot be bought, sold, transferred or cashed out.
- A Premium subscription is planned. It would pay for features such as priority, and the current rates are published policy that changes gradually rather than overnight.
- Whether SparkUp ever sells capacity to business customers is an open question the team has not settled. If that changes, it will be stated here and it will be something you opt into, not a default.
Who runs it
SparkUp is an independent project, not part of an internet provider or a VPN company. The operating entity and its registered address will be published on this page before general availability. Until then, reach the team at contact@sparkupco.net.
SparkUp VPN is unrelated to other products called SparkUp or Sparkup, including the video platform at sparkup.app.
